TV on Linux

Although there are many TV tuner cards available in the market and software related, yet TV on Linux (or any other computer for that matter), has yet to catch on. This seems to be even more difficult considering that the television industry and overall technology is catering more for on demand video and live stream broadcasting versus traditional broadcasting.

However, there are still projects for video capture and Linux video applications that with a TV input provided by a TV card attached to the computer can provide Television connection on the computer screen. Digital TV reception is possible with certain adjustments and software manipulation as provided in the internet by other Linux users, and enthusiasts of Linux tv.

Linux video capture applications such as V4L allows capture not only from a TV signal, but also from a webcam and other supported devices (digital cameras, etc). The functionality and overall complexity of a TV signal on a regular user-end computer doesn't give a positive outlook on the future of tv for Linux, this if we compare the sky rocketing popularity of streaming and internet broadcasting. The main usage for tv tuner cards for Linux is mainly for professional tv editing personnel.

Linux Video editors, like the ones we discussed in that section, offer the capability of capture and digitally editing the TV on Linux based software.
